5 ATTRACTING AND ADDRESSING AUDIENCES

HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

During the process of attracting and addressing audiences, I learned from doing my research how film companies distribute . I did a number of different case studies for current films, one of them being The Hunger Games Mockingly part 1. I also did a case study on the film what we did on our holiday which was a smaller distribution for a national target audience as opposed to The Hunger Games which is a hollywood blockbuster. I also learned that distributors use a variety of new technologies such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and websites in order to market their product. However, the mutual feeling amongst my peers is that we thought that our film would attract more of a national audience and therefore we decided to research Vertigo.

WHY WOULD AUDIENCES LIKE MY MOVIE?

I think that due to the fact that this film is a thriller/horror film, many people will be drawn to this because these genres are similar but at the same time, they have their differences when applied to certain audiences. The horror in this film is meant to keep the audience at the edge of their seat and feel an adrenaline rush. The idea of horror films is to shock and scare the audience and create a  sense on symbolism in our film by portraying this theory to make the audience feel intimidated. Also, horror movies with appeal to the teenage demographic which is our main audience. The thriller aspect is used to hold peoples curiosity and suspense which is played through the storyline of our film. Our film is also based in reality whereas compared to most horror films, they tend to have a supernatural element to them and I think horror in reality is more difficult to pull off than fictional horror which was a challenge we have set ourselves.

ATTRACTING OUR AUDIENCE:
In order to complete this task, we used techniques that a professional company distributor would create:

  • A poster
  • A film website
  • A Facebook page
  • Two twitter feeds

The key visual code here is the haunting stare of the victim. Thriller film audiences would respond to this arresting image with its direct address and engagement with the audience.

All of these tools help promote the film and creates excitement and curiosity which inspires people to go watch the film.

I constructed two twitter pages, one of which would be my personal twitter page and the other being the movie page. This helped promote our film because this is a well known platform and has a large target audience which would help our film get noticed. They might have questions about how we made the film.

Another reason why I chose Twitter is because of the two step flow theory, which means word of mouth on social networking sites and by verbal communication. I also told people to visit our Facebook page which was constructed by (Ollie Macnaughton), and I also kept tweeting regularly to keep our followers up to date about when the film will be released.

I created the Twitter pages for the movie. I have made steady progress with putting up the film making process as possible. I also have some behind the scenes filming that I am going to apply to the twitter feeds. I thought that this would be a good idea to give the viewers a different perspective of the film. here is a link to both twitter feeds:

(Ollie MaCnaughton) created the Facebook page for the film. we both followed the same principle of  putting as much of the film process a possible. Both of these strategies will help promote our film and will target our main audience. here is the link:

I think our film will promote it's involvement across a diverse array of brand communication.
